STEAM is an amalgamation of five disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. This multidisciplinary approach taken in education is necessary to enhance and/or strengthen students’ skills in inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking for the 21st century. The aforementioned skills are essential to meet the demands of this century’s economic workforce. The S.T.E.A.M. curriculum is designed to engage students in experiential learning, expanding their overall innovativeness, and exploring new problem-solving methods when the need arises.
At I.S. 232, students have the opportunity to learn the physics of flight with a state-of-the-art flight simulator, construct and build underwater robots from scratch, learn the language of code through a series of educational games, build and program Lego EV3 robots, and fly drones with their newly acquired coding skills. S.T.E.A.M. allows our students to learn within a project-based environment which in turn places them in a state of ease and allows them to propel their learning at a whole new level.
